Plot
A film student who is obsessed with the movie Grave Encounters sets out with his friends to visit the psychiatric hospital depicted in the original film.
Good Points
- This sequel actually tries something different instead of just copying the first film to its credit, and it also has a lot of fun playing around with horror fans and the genre itself.
- The abandoned hospital is still the biggest strength of the movie – creepy, unpredictable and a great setting.
- The atmosphere is excellent throughout again.
- The scares are a bit more frequent, even if they are also quite predictable.
- It has a good sense of humor running throughout it too, so thankfully it doesn’t take itself too seriously.
- The camera work feels more controlled this time round, and it avoids becoming too annoying.
- It definitely felt like it has more confidence in its own ideas this time around, especially compared to many low-budget horror sequels that simply follow a formula.
- The way it connects itself to the first film is good and gives fans more to think about.
