V/H/S/MIXTAPE trailer unleashes music-fuelled found-footage horror with GWAR, RZA, Tobias Forge and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
V/H/S/MIXTAPE is turning the volume all the way up with the first trailer for the latest entry in the long-running found-footage horror franchise.
Released ahead of the movie’s October debut, the trailer gives us a look at a collection of new nightmares built around music, sound and some strange imagery.
Rather than simply using the familiar found-footage setup again, this instalment is using audio as the connecting theme, with everything from sonic experiments to cursed music and a very creepy puppet show thrown into the mix.
The new movie is the ninth main instalment in the V/H/S franchise and brings together four segments from a pretty unusual collection of filmmakers.
Renee Zhan directs Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, which centres on a studio attempting to bring back a long-cancelled puppet show with a mysterious history – the segment also features original creature work from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which is responsible for some of the trailer’s strangest-looking moments.
David Moreau, director of Them and MadS, takes on Heartbeat, and this one follows two YouTube urbex influencers who become trapped inside a decommissioned military facility that was once used for sonic experiments.
Then there’s The Music of Mr. Sze from Ernest Dickerson, in which a college film student making a documentary becomes interested in the secretive life of a troubled musician.
The fourth segment, Death Tone, comes from RZA, which follows a young sound engineer who attempts to fulfil her late father’s instructions to create the ultimate track.
There’s also a wraparound element hosted by shock-metal legends GWAR, with the band appearing in an MTV-style show from hell – the movie features music-video material directed by Tobias Forge, frontman of Ghost, and filmmaker and musician Flying Lotus.
The practical effects are also getting plenty of attention, particularly the work from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop – from what is shown in the trailer, the puppet material looks like it could provide one of the more memorable segments in the anthology.
The movie will have its world premiere at Beyond Fest on September 30, 2026, before arriving exclusively on Shudder on October 9, 2026.
