Don't Hang Up

Don’t Hang Up (2025) Review

Don’t Hang Up is a tough one to recommend, but it had some half decent moments early on.

Synopsis

College friends Summer, Vicky, and Eva visit a haunted Airbnb in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a wedding, unknowingly awakening vengeful spirits from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, leading to a terrifying battle for survival documented via FaceTime calls with Summer’s boyfriend, Chris, as the ghosts seek justice for historical atrocities.

My Thoughts on Don’t Hang Up

Good Points

Decent Concept

The story of a haunted house observed through phones and video chat is an interesting twist on the haunted house genre.

Effective Early Scares

Shadows, glowing eyes, and physical attacks on Eva created some genuinely tense moments in the first act.

Outside Perspective Adds Depth

Chris watching via video chat helps give you a second layer of engagement.

Moments of Shock

Some of the physical attacks and supernatural interactions are surprisingly well done.

Atmosphere

The house is fairly unsettling and created a half decent atmosphere.

Bad Points

Frustrating Character Decisions

Summer and Vicky repeatedly make irrational choices that undercut it all and make some moments feel a bit comedic.

Suspense Drops Midway

The story quite quickly loses tension after the decent first act.

Late Explanation

The haunting’s rules and the reason the women can’t leave are revealed too late/

Predictable Patterns

Some scares repeat, and the supernatural attacks lose impact fairly quickly.

Missed Opportunities

The story could have benefited from more early supernatural interactions to maintain tension.

The Ending

It doesn’t really wrap up in a decent way.

Minimal Character Depth

Outside of Eva, the characters’ motivations and backstories are shallow, making it hard to care.

Rationality Issues

The characters’ repeated bad choices often stretch believability, even for horror standards.

Final Thoughts on Don’t Hang Up

Don’t Hang Up is a tough one to recommend, but it had some half decent moments early on.

If you really like Screenlife horror, you may find some bits to enjoy, but overall it fell short for me.
