Curry Barker in Milk & Serial

Milk & Serial Review (2024)

Milk & Serial is a free found footage movie released on YouTube with an $800 budget. Is it actually worth a watch though?

Synopsis

A surprise birthday prank takes a turn for the worse when a popular social media duo must face the reality of the terrifying aftermath.

My Thoughts

A new one-hour found footage horror film called Milk & Serial has been gaining a lot of attention lately.

It’s a freely available found footage horror movie you can watch YouTube and has been gaining a lot of positive reviews!

It is the first feature film from Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson, who also run the popular YouTube sketch channel That’s a Bad Idea.

The film follows two friends, Seven and Milk, who are known for their pranks, and for Milk’s birthday, Seven plans a prank involving a gun with blank bullets to scare him.

I personally found the film quite unsettling, it starts slowly but ramps up the more it goes on.

The acting is decent too which was a nice surprise for a low-budget debut, and the simplicity of the film adds to its authenticity and I recommend watching it without too many spoilers.

This could be the start of something bigger for Barker and Tomlinson, and with a bigger budget, I’d be curious to see what they could create next, and lots have been calling for Shudder to sign them up!

Milk & Serial is a fun found footage horror film with a creepy, disturbing vibe. Considering it is a debut feature with such a small budget, I was really impressed and this duo is one to keep an eye out for.

It’s seriously better than a lot of mainstream found footage releases.

Good Points

Fresh: Milk & Serial just feels fresh, and it is something the found footage genre probably needed!

Decent Acting: The performances are surprisingly good for a low-budget debut.

Engaging Story: The plot, involving a prank gone wrong, keeps you hooked, especially as it really gains momentum halfway through.

Bad Points

None: I am loathe to say anything really negative considering the budget and everything else. It is a really solid piece of work.

Is It Worth Watching?

Milk & Serial is 100% worth watching. Despite its low budget, it offers quite an engaging experience and showcases the potential of emerging filmmakers on digital platforms, especially this particular duo.

  1. I’ve been watching found footage horror ever since the release of The Blair Witch Project. I’ve seen over a ~100 found footage movies, probably more.

This is one of the better ones.
