Myanmar has its very first found footage horror movie set to be released!
Southeast Asian genre cinema is reaching a historic milestone this summer, because Myanmar’s very first found-footage horror feature, “The Last Footage,” is officially set to make its world premiere at the prestigious Fantasia International Film Festival.
Directed by visionary filmmaker Arkar Soe Oo, the movie joins a highly anticipated lineup of global genre heavyweights for the festival’s landmark 30th edition.
A Historic First for Burmese Cinema
The found-footage horror subgenre has remained completely uncharted territory for Myanmar’s film industry, but “The Last Footage” is breaking this mold.
The film has been selected as part of Fantasia’s final wave of announcements, sharing the spotlight with major Asian releases like Takashi Shimizu’s Village of Eight Gravestones and Yeon Sang-ho’s Colony.
Two Awakened Horrors
According to the film’s official logline on IMDb, the plot follows a group of friends whose remote forest getaway turns into an absolute nightmare,and the narrative shifts into overdrive when a young boy vanishes, triggering a desperate blood ritual that accidentally resurrects a witch’s dead son.
Arkar Soe Oo relying heavily on real-time tension, claustrophobic framing, and a deeply unsettling atmosphere, and by using camera glasses rather than a traditional shaky cam, the film builds a seamless, first-person POV that drops viewers directly into the haunted wilderness.

The world premiere of “The Last Footage” will take place during the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, which runs from July 16 through August 2, 2026.
