Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County has flaws, but it also has a low budget charm to it as well.
Synopsis
After a mysterious blackout, a son goes out to investigate and captures footage of actual aliens. When the aliens follow him and his brothers back to their home, all hell breaks loose.
Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County Good Points
Stripped-Back Approach
The film commits hard to a simple approach, which has quite a raw found footage style, which I think many will like, as when it works, it creates a decent sense of immediacy.
Low-Level Bit Persistent Tension
The film has a constant suggestion that something is wrong, so that background unease really helps carry most scenes and keeps you interested and thinking something is going to happen.
Fragmented Camera Style (Sometimes Effective)
The messy, uncertain camerawork occasionally enhances the mood – half-seen movement, partial reactions, and off-frame disturbances create a sense of instability that fits the story well.
Moments of Realism
Despite uneven acting, there are brief flashes of believable reaction and behaviour, especially from the younger cast members.
Claustrophobic Setting
The limited location actually works in its favour, and the lack of escape reinforces the tension and gives the story a quite contained, pressured feel.
Rough But Watchable Energy
It definitely has a lack of polish, which you would expect anyay from a straight to TV movie, and for when it was made, but it does give it a strange, inconsistent charm too – it feels unrefined, but not lifeless.
Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County Bad Points
The Acting
Performances swing wildly between stiff, unnatural delivery and some occasional believable moments, bu overall, the acting isn’t great.
Dialogue and Timing
Some of the lines often feel poorly timed or delivered without any natural rhythm to it.
Unintentional Comedy
Some moments land awkwardly enough to become funny – this could be a good point too depending how you look at it.
Cracked “Realism” Illusion
While the film aims for authenticity, certain staged or poorly coordinated moments break that illusion entirely.
Limited Narrative Development
The story certainly doesn’t really expand much beyond its basic setup, and basic is a good word to use for the whole film really.
Uneven Pacing
Long stretches of minimal activity make everything feel flat at times, even if they maintain a faint sense of tension.
Underused Concept
The alien premise doesn’t evolve much beyond familiar ideas.
Final Thoughts on Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County
This is a straight to TV movie, and is based on/a remake of The Mcpherson Tape from the same director, so if you have seen that movie, and enjoyed it, this one is worth a little watch too, even if the acting and execution are all over the place, but it has a certain low budget found footage charm fans of the genre will appreciate.
