Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project

Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project Review (2025)

Found Footage: The Making of The Patterson Project is a fun, fairly clever mix of comedy and horror.

Synopsis

A crew of acclaimed documentarians follow a young budding filmmaker as he attempts to create the world’s greatest found footage horror film.

My Thoughts on Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project

Good Points

Clever Layered Story

Having a documentary crew follow the filmmakers was a bit different, and it lets you see things the main characters don’t, which I found quite interesting, as normally it’s just one crew.

Strong Relationships

Chase, Natalie, and Mitchell all have good chemistry, and you do end up actually caring a bit about them.

Comedy to Horror

It all starts off with a pretty light and playful tone before gradually becoming darker, and this transition felt natural rather than too abrupt like you sometimes see.

Low Budget Filmmaking Chaos

The struggles of shooting a low-budget film are pretty funny and add some charm without overdoing it too much.

Natural Performances

Everyone plays it straight, and no one is too over the top.

Satisfying Ending

The final act delivers a clear payoff, which helped make the slow buildup worth it.

Small Details Add Flavor

Background moments, reactions, and little touches help give it that extra depth when you notice them.

Humor That Works

Most of the humor comes from some awkward, yet believable situations rather than any forced jokes, and it worked better than I thought it would.

Good Blend of Comedy and Horror

The mix of lighthearted and darker moments is handled very well, and in comedy-horror movies the mix doesn’t always work, but here it’s fine.

Bad Points

Slow Start

The first portion of the movie is light and playful as mentioned, which may feel a bit slow to some if you’re expecting immediate scares or suspense.

Supporting Characters

With so many people on set, a few of the side characters don’t leave much of an impression on you.

Bigfoot Mystery Drags

The gradual reveal of whether Bigfoot exists feels too stretched, and at times the movie meanders a bit.

Documentary Crew Switches Distract

The perspective of the French crew is fun but occasionally interrupts the main story a bit.

Some Predictable Moments

You will probably end up anticipating a lot of what will happen.

Final Thoughts on Found Footage: The Making of the Patterson Project

Found Footage: The Making of The Patterson Project is a fun, fairly clever mix of comedy and horror, and I enjoyed it for the most part.

While some parts drag and feel predictable, it was entertaining and charming enough.
