Don’t Make a Sound is a very low budget found footage film, and it shows.
Synopsis
Two sisters are stranded with a broken-down car in the woods, are hunted by a camcorder-wielding killer, forcing them to stay quiet to survive, with the killer recording their terrifying ordeal as he stalks them through the isolated wilderness
My Thoughts on Don’t Make a Sound
Good Points
Decent Premise
The setup of a masked killer hunting in the woods, while generic, is interesting enough.
Occasional Tension
There are a few moments where it does manage to be genuinely suspenseful, particularly when the killer is stalking Grace.
Bloody Ending
The finale has gore and action, even if it’s predictable.
Bad Points
Poor Focus
The film never really settles on a clear story, where the opening is a jumble of clips, text cards, and random killings that don’t make sense.
Weak Character Development
Early characters, like the kidnapped girl, disappear with no explanation, and the main characters are fairly forgettable.
Pacing
The first half is slow and full of meaningless scenes.
Repetitive
Grace running through the woods over and over, while the killer attacks strangers, becomes boring fairly quickly, with little variety.
Technical Sloppiness
I know it’s a low budget film, but it’s off putting when it’s so sloppy at times.
Predictable Ending
The finale is clichéd and awkward.
Just a Bit Dull
Repetitive sequences and sloppy execution, makes it hard to stay invested.
Final Thoughts on Don’t Make a Sound
Don’t Make a Sound has a basic concept that’s frustrating, monotonous, and fairly unsatisfying.
I know it’s a very low budget film as mentioned, but still…
