Greystone Park Movie

Greystone Park Review (2012)

Greystone Park is directed by Oliver Stone’s son, Sean, who makes his film making debut. Can he live up to his fathers name?

Synopsis

Three filmmakers go to an abandoned psychiatric hospital to explore the building and once they get inside, they quickly discover they are not alone.

My Thoughts

This film seems to go by two names, Greystone Park and The Asylum Tapes, but I went with the first one since that is what IMDB go by, who am I to argue with them?

Greystone Park is directed by Sean Stone, the son of famed filmmaker Oliver Stone and serves as Sean’s directorial debut

The film centers on a group of young filmmakers who decide to spend the night in a haunted psychiatric hospital, hoping to capture some scary and spooky footage, but this is a movie you can give a miss.

The actors performances are quite poor and the film is so dark a lot of the time so much of what happens is nearly impossible to see. This movie obviously inspired the Game of Thrones lighting department!

The movie also suffers from a lack of any genuine scares as it relies on cheap sound effects and the typical shaky cam nonsense that can work, but sadly here it does not, and all these moments also feel incredibly forced.

The film briefly teases the appearance of a ghostly figure called Crazy Kate, but this moment is short-lived.

The camera work is appalling too and it all just lacks any atmosphere or tension, and for a movie that apparently cost $500k, yes $500k, it’s hard to recommend this movie at all.

Where all that money went is anyone’s guess, because it certainly was not on the movie as nothing really happens. They obviously spent the money on having a good time while filming this one.

It’s poor, very poor.

Good Points

None

Bad Points

Darkness: The film is just too dark, and sometimes that can work if the film is immersive, but this one is not as nothing much happens.

Bad acting: I am not sure if the acting is poor because they did not have much to work with, or because they just cannot act, but whatever the reason, it’s rubbish.

No atmosphere or tension: This film just has no atmopshere or tension or anything to really get you involved and interested, everything about it just bad, and is one of the worst found footage horror movies I have ever seen.

Is It Worth Watching?

God no.
