Short version: Don’t bother watching House of Eden.
Synopsis
Setting out to film their next paranormal investigation, Kris, Celina and Jay encounter a malevolent, ancient spirit that resides in an abandoned house deep in the woods.
My Thoughts
House on Eden tried. It really did.
Now, I’ve got nothing against Kris Collins she clearly works hard. She writes, directs, stars in it, probably edited it, held the boom mic, and drove the crew home after the shoot. Full effort, and fair play to her.
But just because you can do everything doesn’t mean you should. At a certain point, House of Eden starts to feel like a film made by someone who’s never heard the word “no”, just a bunch of yes-men and ring lights saying, “You’re killing it, babe.”
The star of the show in the film is the house, apparently. This supposedly haunted, ominous structure buried deep in the woods, but it’s a whole load of nothing.
You can’t just say a place is terrifying, you have to make it terrifying. Otherwise, it’s just three people doing ghost cosplay, isn’t it?
The film’s entire idea of horror seems to be whispering a lot, staring into corners, and reacting to things off-camera. And they do that for 75 straight minutes. No tension, nothing.
There’s this one moment where Kris starts yelling at a ghost, like properly losing her shit at this invisible thing. And I actually related to the ghost. If I were invisible and stuck watching this, I’d try and break the boredom, too.
The whole film also hinges on this one vague idea that “a girl disappeared here, like sixty-ish years ago.” That’s the entire backstory. That’s the best they could come up with.
No name, no date, no actual detail. Just, “She vanished,” and that’s meant to carry the whole plot.
The characters have no urgency, no logic, and no stakes. They stick around for no reason, walk into danger, and react to actual supernatural events with no emotion.
And the editing is incredibly frustrating. It cuts away from scenes constantly. Every time something starts to get vaguely interesting, it jumps to another angle. It’s as if the movie knows it’s not working and just keeps hoping you won’t notice if it moves fast enough.
House on Eden isn’t terrible in the way that makes you angry, it’s terrible in the way that makes you tired. Like emotional jet lag.
It doesn’t do anything unexpected. It presents a familiar concept, executes it with minimal detail, and leaves you to fill in the blanks.
For a story about people chasing the unknown, it’s surprisingly uninterested in depth, complexity, or surprise.
It’s not scary, and it’s not smart. It’s just a long, expensive way to tell us that even ghosts get bored sometimes.

Predictable Structure – The movie sticks to a safe formula, with no surprises or twists.
Flat Pacing – The film lacks anu momentum. It doesn’t build tension, it plateaus early and stays there.
