Incantation (2022)
Unlike streaming platforms such as Tubi and Shudder, Netflix does not have that many found footage movies to feast on, but Incantation is a film that I think is well worth a watch if you have a Netflix subscription.
Directed by Kevin Ko, it tells the story of Li Ronan, who is cursed after breaking a religious taboo, who must now protect her daughter from the consequences of her actions.
It builds an unsettling atmosphere and tension, and delivers a decent story, good acting, and plenty of creepy moments from the start, and it’s a film with a lot of emotional depth too, and the only negatives for me was it can be a bit messy at times, and if you don’t like slow burners, you might want to avoid.
But if you’re looking for a found footage horror movie that not only delivers the atmosphere and tension but is also quite an emotional film, Incantation is absolutely worth watching for my money.
But do yourself a favor, don’t watch it dubbed (You should never watch a film dubbed anyway TBF), but the dubbing in Incantation is really bad.
Here are some various comments on the film I found from others.
Love this movie a lot and found it very creepy, I’m a sucker for curses and faceless (literally in this case lol) malevolent deities in horror movies. What I enjoyed the most was the acting and emotional bond in this movie between mother and child.
It was great. Total surprise for me. Really good use of found footage and just a creepy as hell story. Suggested it to my friend and she raved about it too.
I’m normally not one to be scared by horror movies, I enjoy watching them but I don’t ever really feel scared or scared ENOUGH to want to stop watching etc, this movie was the first thing that made me consider changing what I was watching LMAO☠️ don’t know why, I’ve watched horror like this before but this one just felt off to me, 8/10 though it’s a great movie,
I loved this movie so much but towards the end it got more sad then scary and when I say I cried I mean I bawled.
