I didn’t mind Curse of Aurore, and found it fairly interesting, even if it was also frustrating at times.
Synopsis
A Dark Web thumb drive reveals footage of three American filmmakers in rural Quebec researching a historic child murder case, and after witnessing several disturbing paranormal occurrences, they attempt to communicate with the spirit of the child.
Curse of Aurore Good Points
The Three Leads Work Really Well Together
You actually end up caring about what happens to them, and they all gel pretty well.
The History Behind The Legend
Knowing Aurore Gagnon’s real case sits underneath everything makes it that little bit more interesting.
The Town’s Reactions Add Good Tension
The cold stares, the frustration, and the uncomfortable way people respond to the camera adds to the tension surrounding it all.
The Strange Moments Aren’t Overplayed
Some of the stranger moments in the film are very very simple, and while not original, they are done subtly enough.
Build Up
The small scenes and odd details stack up nicely for when the bigger moments arrive.
The Final Act Pays Off The Build Up
All the little hints throughout the movie finally start connecting, and the ending has a good punch to it.
Hidden Ghosts
Hidden ghosts are intentionally placed throughout the film, which is kind of cool.
Curse of Aurore Bad Points
Some Early Scenes Run A Bit Long
A few of the writing/session moments in particular feel a bit repetitive and could’ve been trimmed.
A Few Scares Are Pretty Familiar
Not much new going on in this department that will surprise you too much, but as mentioned, they still work OK.
The Pacing Dips In The Middle
There’s a stretch where not much happens, and it slows things down more than it needs to.
Some Ideas Don’t Get Fully Explained
Certain parts of the story aren’t really explained, and go nowhere, when it would have been nice to have known more.
Glitching Camera Effect
I found it annoying.
Final Thoughts on Curse of Aurore
I didn’t mind Curse of Aurore, and found it fairly interesting, even if it was also frustrating at times, but for a low budget found footage film, it did enough and added some good touches.
