Conjuring Tapes is a hard film to recommend, but I admire its ambition.
Conjuring Tapes Synopsis
While sorting through their late friend’s belongings, two women discover VHS tapes showing them in haunting, unfamiliar scenes, each one drawing them into the grasp of a mysterious, malevolent entity.
My Thoughts on Conjuring Tapes
Conjuring Tapes is a horror anthology featuring different short segments, and I quite liked the idea behind the film, and I also wasn’t expecting the attempts at humor that was thrown in.
Like a lot of found footage films, it doesn’t try to look slick, and it has a gritty feel to it all, and visually it wasn’t too bad for its limited budget.
We get to see actors Brenda Yanez and Samantha Laurenti juggle multiple roles, and they juggle them pretty well, switching between characters and timelines, but they keep the emotional threads tight, and no matter who they’re playing, they stay grounded in the film’s core themes.
Conjuring Tapes is like a found-footage Frankenstein, with bits and pieces sewn together, and there’s a puzzle-like structure to it all, with stories inside stories, as it delves into different dynamics.
I think it certainly could have been written better though, and I did find myself confused at times, and it’s a film that had a nice idea and premise, but I am not sure it was executed as well as it could have been, but you have to remember the budget limitations as well.
To be honest, it’s a hard one to say I actually recommend, as its a film that definitely won’t be for everyone, and you might wonder what the hell is going on at times, but I didn’t mind parts of it, but can’t help but wonder with a bit more polish, and better writing, what could have been.
I appreciate the effort and idea, and it had some moments that were fine, but overall, I wasn’t a massive fan. But I don’t regret watching and supporting it, and appreciate what it attempted, even if it didn’t work for me overall.

Conjuring Tapes Good Points
Performances – Brenda Yanez and Samantha Laurenti deliver decent performances, shifting between multiple characters with clarity and some emotional weight.
Visuals – Visually it was OK considering its budget.
Conjuring Tapes Bad Points
Slow Start – The first act is very slow, which may test your patience.
The Writing – The writing could have been better at times, and I would have liked the stories to have been linked in a more meaningful way, and some of the story threads are introduced but aren’t fully resolved.
Inconsistent Tone – The film struggles to balance its horror elements with its dramatic ambitions.
Is The Conjuring Tapes Worth Watching?
It’s not a film I’d recommend to casual viewers, but if you enjoy low budget horror and can forgive a lack of cohesion in favor of ambition, Conjuring Tapes might be worth a watch for you.
It didn’t quite work for me, though.
